Over the cool months (or warm months at the river edge), we’re coaxing local ecologies to heal after total destruction over 170 years and relentless degradation even now. Our gentle, deliberative approach ensures the bushes, grasses, herbs and trees will survive heavy flash flooding and erratic weather to thrive and flourish.
Riverbanking begins with an inspiring site walk! You’ll be introduced to best-practice techniques and moving safely around this hazardous area. We’ll share lots of background, giving you a great foundation for caring for our beloved riverlands and helping them heal the way Nature intended.
If you’re up for something more ‘heavy duty’, strong arms are critical for whippersnipping, hauling and terracing, and much more. This work packs a powerful punch. It protects and improves the degraded riverbank’s structural integrity. And it helps us with broader land management in areas not yet ready for more intense care.
Sometimes we need to borrow an SUV, a trailer, a power tool or a heavy hand tool like a mallet. Or just a good old helping hand with a trolley or extra wheelbarrow to shift rubbish bags or plants. We’re all for sharing resources, so if you can help out with equipment, give us a hoy!
Help us put the Yarra’s lower western floodplain on the map. The plants, fungi and wildlife we’re identifying are added to the global iNaturalist network through iNaturalist Australia and shared with the Atlas of Living Australia. And our weed ID will support critical weed management across generations of riverland stewards.
